Aberdeenshire and Grampian Highlands

The north-east of Scotland - perhaps more than any other part of the country - rolls the best of mountains, coastline and thousands of years of history into one, irresistible package.

Inland, the eastern slope of the Cairngorms are a real magnet for walkers, with famous Munros like Lochnagar at the top of many climbers' lists. Inland, too, is where you will find the long, sweeping valley of Deeside, now closely associated with the Royal Family through their holiday residence at Balmoral, while to the north the long, winding valley of the Spey is home to the world's greatest whiskies (and some fine fishing too).

Along the coast, small fishing villages make picturesque staging points for coastal and clifftop walks. Oh yes - and this part of the country gets more sunshine and less rain than virtually any other part of Scotland - another good reason to visit!
